y'all don't know anybody
i had one of those moments of deep thought this morning. do you ever stop and think about all those people you 'know', but you really no shit about. people who you see and chat to every now and then (or even every day) but you don't even know their surname, where they're from - you know, their story. you know nothing. do you even know these people?
case in point: your domestic worker. fine- her name is sally/milly/thando (insert name here). but do you know her at all?
what about people who you're in lectures with, people who you work with? every single day of your life.
maybe we should move beyond our stupid little comfort zones (that ridiculous 1m X 1m cube) and actually make an effort to get to know a little bit more about people around us who we think we 'know'. think about how many (few?) people would visit you if you were really sick in hospital. its not a pleasant thought by any means, but it kinda puts things into perspective - doesn't it?
what made my day today: liquorice allsorts. its the small things :)

i hear what you're saying and i agree that we should take more of an interest in people around us but i think that you can 'know' people on different levels. i mean there have been people i have connected with without ever knowing their surname or exactly which town in zim they come from but i know their dreams and hopes, their fears and failures. and then there are those whose names, surnames, parents' and pets' names i know and yet we haven't bonded so does that mean i 'know'them any more than i know you?
I honestly don't think that anyone can realy know anyone else. All people can really hope for are people that come from similar backgrounds and experiences to empathise/relate to someone else's life - oh yeah, and these people need to have half an ounce of compassion for their fellow human as well, something that is sorely lacking in this day and age. Basically it's hard knock life.
A hallo is polite and common and we expect it from each other. But a hallo ...thando,jessica or whoever... is personal and unexpected. So why not dare to do the unexpected.
